During the course of a school year volunteers from the Old & Abbey participate in three schools events for children from Ladyloan and Hayshead primary school when our minister is chaplain.
In December each year Primary 5 children join in ‘Bubblegum ‘n Fluff’, an interactive activity designed to encourage them to understand the real meaning of Christmas and to see beyond the tinsel and presents.
In March / April Primary 6 pupils come together to experience ‘The Easter Code’ where they work their way around a series of stations to explore the events leading up to and beyond the first Easter.
Then in June Primary 7 children take part in ‘Popcorn and Cake’ which explores the festival of Pentecost.
All events are held in St Andrew’s Church where they were started a number of years ago by the then Associate Minister, Stuart Irvin. The programme is now offered to all primary schools in Arbroath with members of the various churches looking after the schools that they are linked to.

Apart from these events for specific groups of children, our minister, as chaplain to Ladyloan PS and Hayshead PS and part of the chaplaincy team at Arbroath Academy, is often in these schools leading assemblies, visiting classes and participating in special events.
Also, we are always delighted to welcome the staff, pupils, parents and friends of the two primary schools to the church for their end of term services and awards ceremonies.
