Worship

Who are we ?

Worship is an important part of our life at the Old & Abbey Church.  There are two weekly but quite different Services.  Sunday worship takes place at 11.00a.m. in the church (first Sunday of each month in the New Hall).  This worship leans towards a more traditional style, but includes many creative elements.  Hymns, old and new, organ and keyboard, drama, PowerPoint, solos, responses and sermons delivered in a variety of ways, make sure that worship is never dull!  The Sunday School meets at 10.30a.m. – the children joining the adults for the last part of worship.  A creche is available for children from birth to three years.  Refreshments are served both before and after worship in the Gallery.

Midweek worship takes place at 7.00p.m. in the Small Hall on Wednesday evenings.  This short, half hour Service is more reflective, creative and interactive in character.  It is led by both the minister and a trained team of worship leaders who are members of the congregation.  Worshippers sit in a circle making the experience more intimate.  Refreshments are served after worship and most folk tend to stay.

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated four times a year at Sunday morning worship, four times a year at Midweek worship, two times a year at an evening candlelight worship and once during Holy Week.  Everyone is warmly welcome, including children.  The Sacrament of Baptism is conducted on request.  Please contact the minister.  Special Services are held from time to time to mark the major seasons of the church calendar.  Usually at least once a year a labyrinth is set up in the New Hall to enable a more personal time of worship and reflection.  The church is open for personal prayer and reflection on Wednesdays, 7.00-8.00p.m. and for an hour after worship each Sunday morning.
