The Guild session is well underway and yet again there is a super syllabus in place. The opening concert by Layla Brown and friends was enjoyed by all. The following week Sally Atkinson gave a talk and showed slides of her cycling trip across the land of the Thunder Dragon, again thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, due to boilers being replaced and subsequently no heating, the next two meetings had to be cancelled. Fortunately, Margaret Tooth from Blythswood Care was able to reschedule her visit and gave and excellent presentation on the 1st November. A demonstration of ‘Devilish Party Plan Desserts’, a talk by the Salvation Army and a Musical Evening for St Andrew’s Night completed November with a visit from Alison’s Linen Shop planned for December.
This year’s Guild Week ran from 20th to 27th November with the Old & Abbey Dedication Service being held on the 20th. The Guild Coffee Morning took place on Saturday 26th November, the proceeds of which will support a variety of projects as well as our own church.
The Guild Christmas meal will be held in the Meadowbank Inn on Tuesday 13th December, 6.30 for 7pm.
The line up for January 2012 includes a demonstration of country dancing, a talk from Ian Gray, a visit from Abbey Fruits and a visit from Helen McDiarmid. Members are also invited to a Musical Evening with Southesk Strings at the West Kirk on 23rd January.
